Far Eastern University-Institute of Tourism Hotel Management alumnus John Robert Angeles, better known as Rob, made it to the Top 12 of the PhilPop Himig Handog Songwriting Festival, the country’s most prestigious music and songwriting festival.

His song, ‘MHWG,’ is among the finalists in the said competition.

Rob finished his Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management degree in 2017. He was part of a theatre group where he gained experience in acting and singing. He then joined the FEU Cheering Squad and performed several half-time performances in University Athletic Association of the Philippines seasons 74-75.

In 2022, Rob released his debut single entitled “Ilang Beses,” a ballad about heartbreak.

“Everything I wanted to express, I wrote it in my first single. It’s a song about asking God how to unfasten the questions that keep on looping in my mind.” Listen to “Ilang Beses.” The song, produced by Migz Haleco and distributed by Ditto Music, is available on all digital music platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer.

The PhilPop Himig Handog Songwriting Festival is a joint effort by Himig Handog and the PhilPop Music Foundation, two groups that support promoting Original Pilipino Music by providing songwriters and music industry professionals an avenue to showcase their creativity and talent. The Grand Finals is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024.
