Far Eastern University, through the Publications Office, launched virtually the book Braving the Odds: Far Eastern University’s Journey and Legacies written by a genuine polymath, Alfredo Roces, last November 17, 2021.
Published to celebrate the university’s 93rd anniversary in 2021, the commemorative book covers the history of Far Eastern University spanning over 90 years. Roces narrates the vision of the founder and the journey towards becoming a highly distinguished higher education institution and the stories of the men and women who have been devoted to upholding the mission.
“It is about a school that began in the American colonial period and soldiered on through World War II surviving the travails of the Japanese occupation and the subsequent battle for Manila, then the challenges of Philippine Independence and —now in contemporary times— the covid 19 pandemic. Arts and culture have always been a part of FEU-its premises embellished with Amorsolo and Carlos Francisco murals and Manansala’s outdoor sculptures. Out of FEU emerged prominent national figures in Literature, business, law, sports, theater, and education,” said Roces.
The official launch also featured a special talk on BRAVING THE ODDS: EDUCATION CHALLENGES AND ISSUES IN THE TIME OF COVID-19 with esteemed speaker and FEU trustee Dr. Edilberto de Jesus. Guest reactors included Dean Harold Culala of the Institute of Education and Clarissa Delgado, CEO and Co-founder of Teach for the Philippines.
