The Felicidad Diaz Elegado Endowment (FDEE) was established in honor of the late Felicidad Elegado, who was the first Dean of the FEU Institute of Nursing. She is remembered for initiating the transition of the school of nursing to a Baccalaureate Degree nursing program with a strong commitment & concern to improve Nursing Education not only in FEU but also throughout the country & Abroad.
This project was named “Felicidad Diaz Elegado Professorial Chair” when it was conceived in 1991. Each of the four original Chapters (Chicago, New York, Northern & Southern Califonia ) contributed $5 K each to start the project. After we completed the MOU and collected the funds, the project was formally launched on Feb. 2014 in FEU. President Felixberto Sta Maria and Dean Lydia Palaypay signed the MOUs in the presence of the Elegado family, FEU faculty & three representatives from FEUNAFUSA.
The late Dr. Fortune Kennedy & Mrs. Carmelita Rafols co-chaired the endowment until the passing of the former in Feb 2014. Mrs. Rafols succeeded Dr. Kennedy as chair in 2014 to date.
The purpose of this project is to promote the continued professional development of faculty members of the Institute of Nursing. Since its inception, the use of the funds continues to evolve to meet the ever-changing needs of the faculty, the Institute & the community. With intermittent lapses of inactivity, thru the years, FDEE has funded four faculty members to acquire their Master’s degrees, one (1) who completed her Doctoral Degree during her Dissertation phase, & funded at least five joint research projects of faculty & students to present their projects to the public.
Recently, Amplifying the Contributions of Nursing In the Society (ACONS), an online nursing publication, was launched through the active collaboration of the Department of Nursing-IHSN, the nursing alumni, ARO, and FDEE. The editorial team led by Dr. Joemer Maravilla as Editor and Mr. Harold Doroteo as Co-Editor made the publication possible. You can download the first issue of ACONS below.
As FEU approaches its Centennial Anniversary, the FDEE Committee’s projects will continue to be in line with the University’s vision & Mission by continually encouraging the faculty to explore strategies to uplift the level of quality education that will assist students in being prepared to be independent, proficient & safe nurses in a variety of health care settings.
The FDEE Committee is concerned with our projects’ sustainability to keep adequate funds. This can only be achieved through the generous support of our Alumni, family & friends. With your continued support, you will be part of the legacy of the FEU-IN in producing competent nurses that all of us will be proud of for a lifetime. Thank you to all for your generous support!
