FEU Joins the Fight Against Child Malnutrition at Hands On Manila’s SERVATHON 2024

Malnutrition continues to be a pressing issue in the Philippines, affecting a staggering one-third of Filipino children. According to UNICEF, 95 Filipino children succumb to malnutrition each day, and 27 out of 1,000 do not survive beyond their fifth birthday. Beyond its devastating health consequences, malnutrition also limits children’s opportunities for a dignified and secure life.

Joining the fight against malnutrition, Far Eastern University (FEU), through the combined efforts of FEU Manila and FEU Institute of Technology, joined Hands on Manila (HOM) for SERVATHON 2024: Fight Malnutrition, Save Futures, last Saturday, September 28, 2024, at SPACE, One Ayala, Makati City. As a long-standing partner, FEU has consistently participated in SERVATHON, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to community service and social responsibility.

This year’s SERVATHON mobilized volunteers from various offices and organizations including FEU Manila, FEU Alumni Relations Office (ARO), FEU Institute of Technology, and Nicanor Reyes Memorial Foundation (NRMF).

The FEU volunteers painted nursing covers with vibrant designs that featured healthy foods and mother-child imagery. This initiative aims to help remove the stigma surrounding breastfeeding in public. Through the combined efforts of FEU volunteers, over 60 nursing covers were created and distributed to lactating mothers, along with instructions and tips in Filipino on proper breastfeeding.

As a testament to its impact, this year’s Servathon produced over 360 nursing covers, 195 sets of educational flashcards, and 150 lactation booster kits. These were distributed to beneficiaries in Angono, Rizal, and Negros Occidental, in partnership with BUSILAK and the NVC Foundation.

FEU remains deeply committed to making a positive impact, and to building an empowering society for all Filipinos.
