The Office of the Chair, through the FEU Alumni Relations Office, organized a special luncheon event to show appreciation to FEU alumni athletes who brought honor to the country through their exemplary participation and accomplishments at the 31st Southeast Asian Games, which was held in Hanoi, Vietnam last May 2022. Twenty medals—four gold, seven silver, and nine bronze—were contributed by FEU alumni athletes to the Philippine delegation, which finished fourth overall with 50 gold, 69 silver, and 93 bronze medal tallies.
A minute of silence was observed during the event in memory of Asia’s Sprint Queen of the 1980s, Ms. Lydia de Vega-Mercado, a beloved FEU alumna and one of the most renowned athletes in the county. The former FEU athlete was among the first to be inducted into the FEU Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. Lydia passed away in August after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Congratulations to you FEU Alumni Athletes in the 31st Southeast Asian Games! In Nov 2019 on 30th Southeast Asian Games I was interviewed as the Oldest Volunteer at age 69 by the Organizing Committee and was televised.
