Dr. Manuel Bulauitan, 74, an alumnus of FEU Medicine batch 1970 miraculously survived Covid-19. Given his age and underlying conditions, his son Philippe said they were preparing for the worst.

He was brought to Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where his oldest son, Major Dr. Constantine Bulauitan, is working. His two other sons, Dr. Philippe Bulauitan and Dr. Manuel Bulauitan, Jr., flew in to help their brother. Manuel was sedated, intubated, and connected to a respirator for two weeks.

In his interview with Fox News, he said, “I think I am one of the luckiest survivors to have three doctors as sons and have them care for me. Going through the virus was a dark place that he wouldn’t wish on anyone as because in his words, it “sucked the hell out of me.” The medical professionals, whom I so am grateful to, are telling me, “it’s a miracle I survived.”

Hailing from Tuguegarao, Cagayan Valley, Dr. Manuel Bulauitan Sr. went to the United States to have his residency training and eventually practice there more than four decades ago. He would go home almost every year to do medical missions and help poor people in the rural areas as his way of paying back.
